Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) was "brave" to block a popular unemployment benefits with a Senate filibuster, says former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

"Bunning was brave in standing up there and taking it on by himself," DeLay said on CNN's "State of the Union."

Senate Republicans should have stood by the senator during his controversial protest last week, DeLay argued.

"It didn't help the Republican cause because the Republicans didn't rally around him, the elected Republicans," he said.

Unemployment benefits, argued DeLay, prevent out of work employees from finding a new job.

"There's an argument to be made that if these extensions of this unemployment benefits keeps people from going and finding jobs," he said.
